Description
Systematic fieldwalking was undertaken by Caroline Wells as part of a study of the archaeological implications of the Dorchester By-pass, produced for the Dorset Archaeological Committee in 1981. A total of eight fields were fieldwalked: two (X & Y) north of Conygar Hill, two (A, B) north of Maiden Castle Farm, one (E) north of Maiden Castle Road and three (I, J, K) south of Bridport Road. These fields were divided into 100m squares and walked in 10m traverses.
The results suggested there was very little prehistoric activity in the area north of Conygar Hill and north of Maiden Castle Farm and adjacent to Bridport Road. The greatest quantity were found across the area to the north of Maiden Castle Road.
