Description

A watching brief was maintained during the topsoil stripping for the construction of the Dorchester By-pass, by Wessex Archaeology, in 1987-1988. No previous evaluation or excavation had taken place along this stretch of the route of the Dorchester By-pass. For most of the route, very little of archaeological significance was observed, however, two pit rings were discovered and these were subsequently properly excavated. Other features observed were mainly field boundary ditches, tree hollows, and areas of colluvium. The results were published together with the results of other excavations along the route of the by-pass (1).
