Description

A watching brief was maintained during the topsoil stripping for the construction of the Dorchester By-pass, by Wessex Archaeology, in 1987-1988. Three evaluation trenches were excavated in this area and few archaeological features (all associated with the medieval and post-medieval field system) were discovered. The watching brief generally confirmed the results of the evaluation and further parts of the medieval and post-medieval field boundaries were planned and partially excavated.
