Description
The excavation of 23 soil test pits for geotechnical soil testing prior to the construction of the Dorchester By-pass was observed by Wessex Archaeology during August and September 1986. An additional test pit was excavated ten metres north of Test Pit T8/1. This was excavated by machine and revealed a 0.25m depth of ploughsoil overlying a 0.65m thick deposit of red clay above the natural chalk.
No archaeological finds or features were observed.
