Description

Wessex Archaeology undertook excavation of the area proposed for the construction of a new vicarage for St George’s Church, Fordington, in the lawn in front of the previous vicarage building, during July and August 1982. Three areas were investigated. Excavation Area B was a small trench along the proposed line of a drain to the NW of the church. The only archaeological feaure was the remains of a floor level of a former barn belonging to Parsonage Farm. This barn was probably demolished in 1897, when the site was landscaped. The evidence suggested that this area had probably been previously terraced for the construction of the farm buildings of Parsonage Farm.
