Description
A desk-based assessment was undertaken on the site of the Nappers Almshouses, West Walks, Dorchester. The results of the desk-based assessment indicated that the site lay just within the western edge of the Roman town of Dorchester. A number of major archaeological discoveries have been made in the vicinity and there is likely to be significant archaeological stratigraphy surviving over most of the area of the site. This is likely to relate primarily to the Roman town defences and to occupation and activity on the margins of the Roman town.
