Description

Excavations by C E Bean to investigate an area where quantities of stone had been turned up by the plough. Just below the surface he uncovered diagonally-laid wall foundations around 2 feet six inches wide. Probing suggested a building at least 70 feet long. A cross trench exposed a rough stone floor. No secure dating evidence was found, though the building appeared to be Roman, and coins of Lucilla (c. AD 164) and Gratian (c. AD 378-383) were found on the surface.
