Description

The early stages of the work on the new almshouses (Nappers Almshouses) in West Walks, Dorchester were observed by R. A. H. Farrar and Mr Dalton in February and March 1957. The foundation trenches were not deep enough to provide a section of the tail of the rampart of the Roman Town defences in this area. Architect's trial pits showed made ground up to 8ft deep (2.4m) in the eastern part of the site.
