Description

Exeter Archaeology conducted an archaeological evaluation of land to the east of Poundbury Farm proposed for industrial development by Dorset Cereals Ltd. Six trenches were excavated by machine, comprising a 3.3% sample of the site. Trench 4 measured 15m by 1.5m and was aligned NNE-SSW near the NW corner of the site. It was positioned across the line of a putative linear cropmark (2), but no evidence was found of this. The stratigraphy comprised 0.25-0.3m topsoil, above a relatively stone free yellow-brown clay, above clay-with flints natural subsoil. No archaeological features were recorded.
