Description
In March 1997 Wessex Archaeology undertook an archaeological field evaluation of three fields between the Bridport Road and Poundbury Road, Dorchester, proposed for development. Forty machine-excavated trenches, plus additional contingency trenches, were investigated.
Trench 36 measured 30m by 1.6m and was excavated to a maximum depth of 1.08m. It was aligned N-S, close to the northern boundary of the site. It contained a single E-W aligned ditch (1.28m wide, 0.7m deep, truncated 'v' profile), and may be a continuation of ditch 3505 in trench 35 to the east. It may have been re-cut and its upper fill contained Early to Middle Bronze Age pottery, with unworked burnt flint in its lower levels.
