Description

In March 1997 Wessex Archaeology undertook an archaeological field evaluation of three fields between the Bridport Road and Poundbury Road, Dorchester, proposed for development. Forty machine-excavated trenches, plus additional contingency trenches, were investigated. Trench 29 measured 30m by 1.6m and was excavated to a maximum depth of 1.2m. It was aligned N-S, close to the northwestern corner of the site. Its extended length was c.59m. It contained a possible E-W aligned linear (0.6m wide, 0.5m deep with an irregular concave profile). Its fill merged with that of a possible adjacent pit (0.6m wide, 0.7m deep). Neither feature produced any finds. NMR Microfilm Index PRN: 7878.
