Description
Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land designated as Poundbury Phase II, in advance of a proposed light industrial development. Initially geophysical and fieldwalking surveys were carried out to identify areas of archaeological potential. These areas were evaluated with seven trenches excavated in December 1996. No evidence of archaeological features were recorded during the trenching phase of the evaluation.
Trench 7 was L-shaped and measured 25m by 1.8m, aligned approximately W-E. It was located near the E corner of the evaluation area. The trench was excavated to a depth of c. 0.3m onto natural clay-with-flints subsoil. No archaeological features were observed.
