Description

Wessex Archaeology undertook a watching brief during ground works for a new extension to the Territorial Army Centre, Poundbury Road, Dorchester. This lies within the former Artillery Barracks. The ground levels were reduced by up to 1.5 m across the area and then foundation and service trenches were dug. No archaeological deposits or features were exposed. Overlying the chalk were two dumps of modern rubble, separated by a buried topsoil, probably part of the landscaping for the barracks and recreation ground.
