Description

Archaeological recording was undertaken by Exeter Archaeology in August and September 2001 during decontamination works at Channon’s Garage, High East Street, Dorchester. This comprised the systematic cutting back of section faces working out from the area of the leaking storage tanks until clean deposits were reached. A number of archaeological sections were recorded. The remains of a chalk surface, probably an external yard surface were observed, together with part of a stone wall or drain. Natural chalk was reached in a number of places enabling the full stratigraphic sequence to be recorded.
