Description

An archaeological evaluation on the site of a proposed vehicle hire depot was carried out by AC Archaeology in April 1996. Three trenches were excavated. Trench 1 was oriented NW-SE, measured 8m x 1.6m in plan and was excavated to a depth of up to 1m in a sondage cut into natural chalk. 0.4m of Made Ground lay above 0.2m of silty clay subsoil containing chalk and flints, which lay above natural chalk. Two amporphous depressions in the chalk surface were recorded, one containing a single sherd of post-medieval pottery.
