Description

Archaeological observations and recording during digging of two lengths of service trench and a cess pit, excavated by machine. A post-medieval stone culvert, a cobbled surface and a wall were recorded. The cobbled surface sealed a make-up layer containing medieval pottery, probably of 13th-century date. The absence of widespread medieval deposits was thought to reflect the site's long use as a farm with repeated construction and use of yard surfaces and outbuildings disturbing or removing earlier deposits.
