Description
During the construction of the electrical sub-station on West Walls some years before 1947, a scattered group of a dozen or so small pots were found whilst digging the foundation trenches. The pots were said to have wide mouths and high shoulders, and Mr T Dayrell Reed and Stuart Piggott inferred from this description that a pagan saxon burial ground may have existed at this point. Alternatively the vessels may have been Romano-British black burnished ware jars.
