Description
‘An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction, by Wessex Water, of the Empool to Chalbury water main (2.57km, SY 72098416 to SY 69898355) in south-east Dorset, between June and August 1991. Archaeological features and finds, probably associated with a known Iron Age and Romano-British site, were located to the north of Sutton Poyntz Waterworks (SY 70678393). A previously unrecorded site, probably late Iron Age or Romano-British in date, was also located on the lower slopes of White Horse Hill (SY 72138412). A number of undated subsoil features were recorded along the length of the pipeline. All sites were identified during trenching.’
