5/203 Thistlegate House and attached brick terrace wall

Large house in grounds. Dated 1911, by F W Troup. Brick walls (Dutch clinkers) in stretcher bond with tiled strings. Tiled roof with slight bell-cast profile and projecting eaves, hipped at both ends with a small gablet to right hand. 2 brick stacks to west elevation with flat strings and cornices, at ridge. U-plan house, with main elevations to south and west. West elevation: 2 storeys. 4 windows: wooden cross-transom casements with segmental heads and small leaded lights. Front door, set- in from wall face creating a porch effect. Segmental brick head carried down on octagonal stone piers, with moulded capitals and bases. Canted bay over with 4 light casements, balanced by same at other end. No window cills. South east ridge of house has small bellcote. Interior: heavy chamfered beams with run-out stops, of Vernacular Revival style, carried on corbels. Stone fireplace to Drawing Room. Plank-and-muntin studded doors. Wooden staircase with heavy turned columns and newel with double-head.
Attached brick terrace wall along south front, of openwork brick trellis- design and brick piers at intervals of 3 metres. East front has brick floored terrace carrying brick columns supporting trellis-work. Brick stairs at south east corner join terracing to garden.
