BEAMINSTER PARNHAM ST 40 SE 4/126 Stable-Block north of Parnham House (Workshops and Offices) GV II*
Stables, c. 1910, in Hans Sauer's period of alterations. Hamstone walls with crenellated parapet. Stone slate roofs. U plan of symmetrical design. 2 1/2 storeys, Centre of 3 bays. 3-light stone mullion windows with 4-centred heads and returned labels over. Central projecting porch with niches and a bow-oriel over. Nash-style pinacles. Wings at sides have wide 4-centred arches to ground floor, now glazed, with confronting ogee mouldings. Rear stables along lane. Rubble walls, tiled roof. 2 storeys. 5 windows: 2-light wooden casements with stone lintels over. 2 stable-doors with square wooden frames. Gable-end of rear range has 2 3-centred arches and plank 2-leaf doors. Listed II* for important Group Value. Stables in imitation of entrance to Chantmarle, the other Strode House.
