Description

1. 5190 WEST STREET (North Side) The Former Dorset County Council Junior School (Previously listed as unior Schools) SY 9287 1/87 7.5.52. II GV 2. 1789. Builders George Gollop of Poole and John Swetland. South (principal) front circa 1849. Former Congregational Chapel, opened on New Year's Day, 1790, to house a congregation which had seceded from the main Congregational community the previous year. After their reconciliation in 1849, it was converted for use as a British School. Stucco front. Pitched slate roof. 2 storeys. 4 giant pilasters without capitals, but with sunk panels taking pediment. 3 ranges of segment-headed windows with glazing bars. Door with segment-headed fanlight, and segment-headed relieving arch on plain imposts. Nos 18 to 22 even and the Junior School form a group. Listing NGR: SY9219687336
