1/67 Gatehouse to Brownsea Castle at north corner of walled garden
GV II
Gatehouse c1854. Light brick walls with stone dressings. Flat roof with battlemented parapets. Main gatehouse, block square on plan, of 2 storeys. Rusticated corner piers. Pointed segmental archway. Moulded string courses at first floor and below parapet. On east face a window above arch with ornamental cast iron glazing, and hoodmould. In centre of roof a timber clock turret with battlemented parapet and ogee-shaped copper roof with crocketted ribs and weathervane. Right of main block a single-storey range with circular turret at rear. Windows with hoodmoulds and C20 casements. A National Trust property. RCHM Monument 3 (Dorset Vol. II).
