Detached house. C17, altered C18. Brick walls, colourwashed, tiled roof, central brick stack with projecting piers and recessed cap. Two-room lobby-entrance plan, with projecting porch/staircase tower in centre of front wall. Single-storey rear lean-to with rubble stone walls and tiled roof. Two storeys and attics. Projecting wing has, on ground floor, a segmental-headed doorway. Above this a projecting brick arch of two orders - the inner order of bricks set diagonally to form a "dentil" arch - small blocked opening within the arch. String course above arch. First floor has a two-light stone mullioned window under similar arch. Attic, in half-hipped gablet has a small two-light stone mullioned window. On each side of the projecting wing, ground and first floors each have a two-light stone mullioned window - under similar arches. String course above ground floor arches. Internally, main ground floor rooms have large open fireplaces with moulded timber lintels. One first floor room has fireplace with bolection moulded surround. Panelled doors in C17 moulded frames. Staircase, early C18, with widely spaced heavily moulded balusters. Blocked windows indicates this staircase replaces an earlier one - possibly a newel stair. Queen post roof. Cellar under eastern section once used as the Dower House to Lulworth Castle. A house of unusual character. RCHM Monument 4.
