CORFE CASTLE WEST STREET (East side) SY 95 81 7/148 Nos. 35 and 37 (formerly listed under "Range of 3 20.11.59 cottages, immediately south of Nos. 126 and 127") GV II House, at one time 2 cottages, but originally one house - probably a long-house. Mid-Late C16, altered in C17 and C18, considerably restored 1984. Rubble stone walls, thatched roof, stone stack left of door,brick stack at right end. One storey and attic. C20 oak ledged door into original cross-passage. Right of this 2 C20 plain casements. Left of door a small fire window with stone surround and 2 C20 plain casements. Under eaves, 2 small rectangular windows with stone surrounds and a similar blocked window. Attic has 4 dormers with plain casements. Internally, roof has jointed cruck trusses with traces of smoke-blackening - house originally of open-hall form. Inserted ceiling over hall, with deep chamfered intersecting ceiling beams - part restored. Also in hall, large open fireplace with timber lintol. (RCHM, Monument 92. Dorset. Vol. II).
