Description

CORFE CASTLE SOUTH STREET, KINGSTON SY 95 79 (East side) 6/116 Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8 21.11.59 (formerly listed as No. 5) GV II Block of 4 cottages. Probably early C19 - south end rebuilt c1960 following war damage. Rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs. Nos. 6 and 7 are a pair, Nos. 5 and 8 are in a projecting rear wing - (these probably originally one cottage, with flying freeholds etc.). Stone end and central stacks, brick stack at junction of main range and rear wing, and stone stack at end of wing. 2 storeys and attic. No. 6 at left end, has no windows on road front. Part-glazed panelled door. One first floor casement in left gable wall. No. 7 at right end, has part-glazed panelled door. Ground floor has 2 casements with glazing bars under stone relieving arches. First floor has 3 casements, one with glazing bars, one with centre horizontal glazing bar, one with top hung vent. Attic has 2 gabled dormers with casements with centre horizontal bar. Nos. 5 and 8, in rear wing, of 2 storeys and attic. In south wall, ledged door with small glass panel, (entrance to No. 5). Upper part of this wall plastered. In north wall, ledged door (entrance to No. 8). Ground floor has 2 casements with centre horizontal glazing bar under stone relieving arches. 2 similar casements, with wood lintels, on first floor. Attic has one gabled dormer with casements with glazing bars. Small lean-to addition at outer end, in matching construction. Listing NGR: SY9561279543
