Description
CHURCH KNOWLE CHURCH KNOWLE VILLAGE SY 9481 13/37 Church Farm House, including front boundary wall GV 12.11.59 II Detached farmhouse. Late C16 - early C17, extended to east in C18. Rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs, brick end and centre stacks. One storey and attic. C20 timber porch with gabled tiled roof. Ledged door. Ground floor has 4 casement windows with glazing bars. Attic has one similar window under eaves and one pent-roofed dormer with similar casement. C20 conservatory at rear. Main ground floor room has large open fireplace - part reconstructed, with timber lintel and bread oven. Above this a stone with fragment of inscription - similar to that in west wall of Church tower - q v.2 similar fragments, one incorporating the name 'William Bennet", found during work on fireplace and re-set in it. Some exposed ceiling beams. RCHM Monument 6 (Dorset Vol II). Front boundary wall of stone, with stone piers.
