CORFE CASTLE EAST STREET (East side) SY 96 82 7/20 The Bankes Arms Hotel GV II
Public House. Rebuilt early C20, retaining some earlier outbuildings. Coursed rubble stone walls with ashlar dressings. Stone slate roofs; stone end stacks and one left of centre. 2 storeys and attic. 2-storeyed gabled porch - open on ground floor, with circular stone columns. Depressed 4-centred arched doorway. Ground floor has two 4-light and one 3-light stone mullioned windows with lead lights, under hoodmoulds. First floor has 4 similar 3-light windows. Rear wing in matching construction. C18 outbuildings at rear and on left, with rubble stone walls and stone slate roofs - now used as garages and stores. Included for group value.
