Description

POOLE SZ0090SE CHURCH STREET 958-1/17/5 (South East side) 14/06/54 No.9 II House. c1700, incorporating some earlier work; restored c1965. Red brick with a rubble plinth and tiled roof with stone slate to eaves; large brick rear lateral stack. Single-depth plan. 2 storeys basement and attic; 4-window range. Ground-floor plat band with deep coved eaves, a right-hand segmental-arched vehicle entrance and an entrance in the right return. Flat brick arches over flush frames with horned 6/6-pane sashes, and 3 hipped dormers. Rear has a large central exterior stack with MD in diaper brickwork, now enclosed by a mid C20 extension. INTERIOR: noted as having former through passage at the SW end now opened for the garage; part of a newel stair from the entrance lobby, plank and muntin partitions, and original fireplaces. HISTORICAL NOTE: one of the earliest houses in Poole built with brick. (RCHME: County of Dorset (South East): London: 1970-: 216, 220). Listing NGR: SZ0086190408
