GV II
House. Late C18, extended mid C19. Header bond brickwork, stretcher bond mathematical tiles to N gable, gauged brick dressings, terracotta details, moulded brick gable stacks and tiled roof. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Double-fronted with cogged brick eaves cornice, black headers in gable follow the eaves; a timber door surround with brackets to a shallow pediment and 4-panel door. Painted rubbed brick heads to flush 8/8-pane sashes. Single-window left-hand gable. INTERIOR: recorded as having a staircase with moulded handrail and turned newels, front ground-floor rooms have moulded ceiling cornices. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached single-storey rear stable of similar materials with brick end stack and a hay loft window in the N end with label mould; connected to the house by a short N wall, with a doorway beneath a terracotta stepped gable and finial. The terracotta details of the stable are used elsewhere on mid C19 buildings of the Canford Estate. (RCHME: County of Dorset (South East): London: 1970-: 356).
