Description

POOLE SZ0090SE HIGH STREET 958-1/17/30(North West side) 14/06/54 No.6 The King's Head Hotel GV II Hotel, now public house. Mid C16, refronted C18 and altered late C20. Rendered brick, gable brick stacks, and a tiled roof. Left-hand L-shaped plan, extended to back. 2 storeys and attic; 6-window range. Low plinth and coped left-hand gable. Central doorway with pilasters to cornice and a panelled door, horned 6/6-pane sashes in exposed frames. INTERIOR has an altered ground floor with a C20 bar, the left-hand rear room has an enriched C16 ceiling. Reported by RCHME to have a front range 6-bay Queen post roof with wind braces, cambered collars and tie beams; similar roof to the rear wing has 3 bays without the braces, with ceiling joists framed between the ties. HISTORICAL NOTE: a transitional type of roof between the open medieval type and that of the late C16 with attics. Front formerly had a right-hand late C18-C19 shop front.
