House, now offices. Dated 1798. For Samuel Rolles. Brick with ashlar dressings, ridge stacks and a hipped slate roof. Mid Georgian style. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys and semi-basement; symmetrical 5-bay front with 3-bay central pedimented section. Double fronted with 3-bay pedimented centre set forward, a raised ground-floor with a plat band, moulded first-floor cill band, modillion cornice and parapet, the steep coped pediment containing a coat of arms beneath a helm and supported by palm branches and a motto scroll. Curved steps to a semicircular bowed porch with 4 Tuscan columns with Doric entablature blocks and cornice, over a segmental-arched doorway with a decorative fanlight and 6-panel door. Gauged brick round-arched ground-floor and flat-arched upper windows, those flanking the entrance in matching arched recesses, those over the door with architraves, the lower with a console cornice, to recessed 6/6-pane sashes, and 3/3-panes to the second floor. Rear has similar divisions and fenestration, and a central doorway with good fanlight and 6-panel door, blocked windows flanking the centre bay, and a dated panel inscribed RSA/1798. INTERIOR: a central stair well with the bottom flight removed, cantilevered upper landings, fine original marble and plaster fireplaces with carved and enriched panels, and decorated plasterwork to first and second floors. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached rear spear-headed iron railings and gates. With No.11 Thames Street (qv), one of the 2 largest Georgian houses in Poole, commanding a strong position on the High Street.
