POOLE SZ0190SW HIGH STREET 958-1/18/46(North West side) 27/01/95 Nos.50, 50A AND 52 GV II Includes: Nos.1, 3 AND 5 NEW ORCHARD. Pair of houses, now shops and offices. Late C18, second storey added mid C19. Flemish bond with brick gable stack and tiled double-pile roof. Double-depth plan with NW range. 3 storeys; 6-window range. Late C19 corner shop front to No.52 has thin mullions, consoles and fascia with a splayed corner doorway overhung by the first floor, No.50 has a late C19 shop front with consoles to a fascia with moulded square blocks and cornice, and outer doorways to a 5-light plate-glass window. First-floor former eaves cornice, and mid C19 serrated brick and moulded eaves cornice; rubbed brick flat-arches to 2/2-pane sashes, with two 6/6-pane second-floor right-hand sashes, and blind windows to the left-hand end. Right-hand gable has a right-hand single-window range. NW range (Nos 1, 3 and 5) has late C19 shop fronts either side of a blocked former archway; 4-windows, with narrower windows in the third bay, with 6/6-pane sashes. A trace of the former, lower gable can be seen in the return. No.5 has late C19 shop front with blank brick elevation above; 2-window range of similar sashes on return wall. INTERIOR altered mid C20, a stair leads up from the entrance to No.50A. Listed for historic interest and for group value within the High Street.
