Description

1. 5193 PAMPHILL COWGROVE ROAD (North Side) Farrs House ST 90 SE 3/65 21.12.82 II 2. Late C18 early C19, enlarged mid C19. Plastered walls, roofs part tiled with stone eaves courses, part slated. Two storeys and attics. Originally U-shaped plan - main front range with projecting rear wings each end. In mid C19 the rear courtyard infilled to form a gallery. Main front range has, on ground floor, four pairs of french windows with stepped glazing bars, gothic traceried fanlights, and shutters, and one casement window. First floor has five double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. Remains of iron verandah along this elevation, and along the east elevation, which has similar fenestration. Roof of this wing slated. Main entrance in rear-north-front. This has three gables the centre one being the late infilling. Part-glazed door. Ground floor has four mullioned windows with top-hung lights, and hood-moulds. First floor has two similar windows in the outer wings and large central window lighting the gallery. Attics in each wing have small windows with hood-moulds. Internally, ground floor rooms in the original building have contemporary carved marble fireplace surrounds. Main room has alcove with elliptical arch and panelled jambs. Cupboards each side of this have ornamental tympana. Gallery has open timber roof of arch - braced collar form. Moulded balustrade. Staircase, in east wing, has moulded balusters and wreathed handrail. RCHM Monument 45. Listing NGR: ST9987200319
