Description

HINTON PARVA SU 00 SW B.3078 9/39 Church of St Kenelm 18.3.55 II Parish Church, c1860 with some reset C12 fragments. For Sir William Glyn. Banded flint rubble and ashlar with ashlar dressings. Tiled roofs with stone gable capings and ashlar parapets. Partly neo-Romanesque with the nave and chancel in the Early English style. Plan: nave; chancel; north and south transepts, south tower over porch. Tower: 3 stage surmounted by a hexagonal ashlar spire; doorway has a round arch with shafted jambs with cushion capitals, an inner chevron moulding and an outer double billet moulding; west window of a single, round headed light with shafted jambs; similar window to second stage; third stage has an arcade of intersecting round arches forming 3 openings, the centre of which is blind; the outer openings contain pierced stone panels; rounded corbel table; south transept has a 2-light south window with shafted jambs under a round head; the east window is similar of a single light. East chancel window of 3 graduated, pointed lights under a pointed head. West nave window of 3 graduated lancets under continuous label with carved stops. Remaining windows are plain lancets. Internal features: remodelled semi circular chancel arch with hood moulds having chevron ornament and shafted responds, one of which retains an original capital; carved C12 stone panel with figure, book and cross, reset over door; reset early C19 monuments; C19 collar truss roofs.
