6/98 The Old Farmhouse
II
Detached house - former farmhouse. Possibly originally an end-chimney long-house with byre at left end. Probably early C18. Original section has plastered cob walls, hipped thatched roof, brick stack at right end. One storey and attic. Lean-to porch with thatched catslide roof - door replaced by casement window. Front wall buttressed. C20 part glazed door. Ground floor has 3 casements with glazing bars. Attic has 2 dormers with casements with centre horizontal bar. At right end a later, probably C19, addition, of 2 storeys, with plastered walls and slate roof. Brick porch with gabled tiled roof - door replaced by casement with glazing bars. Ground floor has one casement with glazing bars. First floor has one top hung window. Right of this a lean-to with plastered walls and slate roof. Part glazed door, and one casement with glazing bars. At left end, a lean-to with thatched catslide roof, and one plain casement. In original house, large open fireplace with timber lintel and inserted bread oven. Original roof structure survives. (R.C.H.M. Monument 32. Dorset Vol V).
