Description
1. 5193 PAMPHILL PAMPHILL GREEN Pamphill Manor House ST 90 SE 3/53 18.3.55 II* 2. Late C17, enlarged in C18 and early C20. Brick walls, roofs part tiled and part stone slated. Brick stacks some with recessed panels and oversailing caps. Two storeys and attics. Original building of T-shaped plan - the rear kitchen wing extended late. Lower service range behind this to west. Main, east elevation has projecting centre bay. In this, door in classical surround with pediment has windows on each side, with glazing bars, under brick relieving arches with carved keystones. First floor has three mullioned and transomed windows with lead lights under brick arches with carved keystones. Flemish style gable to attic with parapet and rim on apex. One casement window in this, with balustraded apron. Each side of the centre bay, ground floor has two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars under arches as before. First floor has two windows similar to those in centre bay. Attic has two hipped dormers with casements. C18 north elevation has double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and one mullioned and transomed window with lead lights. Evidence of altered fenestration here. Internally, main ground and first floor rooms have contemporary plaster cornices, and fireplace surrounds. Central hall has painted panel over fireplace. Good C17 dog-leg staircase in rear wing, with heavy turned balusters, moulded handrail and carved pendant. Tuscan colonnade at foot of stair. One first floor room has wing cupboard in side of chimney breast. Two rooms have dated 1740 and 1741 scratched on window panes. A good C17 house, retaining many early features.
