11/4 Garden walls, gateway and terrace balustrade 18.3.55 immediately to north of Cranborne Manor House
GV II
Walls, gateway and terrace balustrade. Walls probably early C17, gateway C18 and terrace balustrade of 1610, remade 1647. Walls of flint and rubble with weathered stone coping. Gatepiers of rusticated ashlar with moulded caps and ball finials. Terrace balustrade of stone with symmetrical turned stone balusters; approached up a short flight of steps. The original gateway and terrace were reputedly broken by Parliamentary troops in 1643. (RCHM, Dorset, vol. V, p.10, no.4.)
