HORTON SU 00 NW HORTON VILLAGE 5/90 Abbey House (formerly listed as 18.3.55 'The Vicarage') II* Probably a monastic building in origin, now a private house c1500 with extensive alteration and refacing, C18. Timber frame with cladding in Flemish bond brickwork. Tiled roof with end and central brick stacks. Stone cornice with brick parapet and stone coping. Approximately symmetrical 2 storeys, 7 bays. Central 3 bay pavilion projects slightly. 12 pane sashes have flat, gauged brick arches with stone keystones. Outer bays have round headed sashes with keystones and imposts. Central part glazed door in flat open porch. Blind recess in parapet above. Internal features (RCHM): 4 bay roof of c1500 with tie beam trusses having cambered and chamfered collars supporting purlins with curved windbracing; mezzanine room with C18 joinery and plasterwork.
