Description

1. 5193 PAMPHILL BLANDFORD ROAD (South-west Side) Keeper's Lodge ST 90 SE 3/18 21.12.82 II 2. Probably C16 origin, enlarged in C18. Original section has timber framed walls with brick infil. East gable wall rebuilt in modern brick. C18 section to west has brick walls. Thatched roof, brick stacks. One storey and attics. Later single-storey lean-to on north has brick walls and tiled roof. Original building was of open-hall form for its whole length. Further bay to east - now demolished - probably contemporary. First floors and chimneys inserted, probably in C17. Entrance in lean-to on north elevation. Part-glazed door. Ground floor has two modern casement windows with glazing bars. Attic has one dormer with oak mullioned casement with lead lights. South elevation has, on ground floor, two modern casement windows with glazing bars, and one small early window with lead lights. One modern window at mezzanine level, lighting stairs. Attic has two dormers with oak mullioned casements with lead lights - all these dormers probably contemporary with inserted first floor and stacks. East ground floor room has large open fireplace with stone jambs and timber lintol. Deeply chamfered ceiling beams and exposed joists. Original timber-framed partition between east and centre rooms. Centre room has chamfered ceiling beams. Chimney in this room partly reconstructed, with brick arch. Roof timbers show evidence of smoke-blackening. RCHM Monument 14. Listing NGR: ST9838601308
