Description

1. 5186 PORTARLINGTON ROAD (South Side) No 4 (Westover) SZ 0790 8/76 II 2. Large and well-detailed villa of circa 1900, Voysey and neo-Georgian mixture. Ground floor brick, with Georgian-shaped windows, segment-headed, scarlet voussoirs. Projecting porch and cloakrooms with alternating brick and stucco quoins, and flat parapet rising at corners (with pierced heart motif); arched doorway with big white semi-circular hood, roofed in lead and supported on richly carved console brackets (foliage). Upper floors roughcast with vast central staircase window in unchamfered stone grid, 6 mullions and 2 transoms, gable over it with attic window strip of six lights in moulded frame. Tall Voyseyish roughcast chimneys. 3 small gables to east, 1 big gable to west. 3 gables symmetrically towards garden (south) with 4-light 2nd floor windows, segmentally pedimented. Gables connected by white Voyseyish balustrading. Ogee-roofed lead cupola off-centre. 2-storey canted bay with single-storey canted bay and balustraded balcony next to it. 2 good spoutheads. Gatepiers of alternating trick and stone, original timber gates. Listing NGR: SZ0769091002
