Farmhouse. Probably C17 in origin with rebuilding of the C18 and a
cross wing of the C19. Squared, coursed rubble and ashlar. Hipped
and gabled slate roofs with brick stacks at various locations.
2/3 storeys, irregular fenestration. South wall has 2 stone mullioned
windows of 3-lights the lower one having a returned label. North
front has 3-light C18 stone mullioned windows. Wide south wooden
plank door under wooden lintel. C19 wing has some sashes and some
casements with leaded-lights. Panelled door with flat hood. C19 wing
has chamfered plinth and moulded cornice. The house has a large moat
and is all that remains of the settlement of Thornton, once a separate
parish.
