Description

WINTERBORNE KINGSTON SY 89 NE MUSTON 7/153 Muston Manor II* Detached house, late C17 with C18 porch and addition to left. Flemish bond brickwork, early parts having burnt headers; flint plinth. Half-hipped, thatched roof with 2 brick stacks part way in along the ridge. One and a half storeys, 5 window range. Central 3 bays project forward slightly. 2-light, C19/20 casements with glazing bars, those to the ground floor under segmental brick heads. Central 2-storey porch, probably in imitation of that at nearby Anderson Manor; round brick arch with brick imposts and stone keystone; upper floor has probably reset single-light stone window with elliptical head; plank door. To the east gable and rear wall are some windows with heavy, pegged timber surrounds, some with fixed glazing and some with wrought-iron casements containing leaded-lights. Some blocked openings to rear. Interior features; these are of very high quality for a small dwelling; many rooms have fielded panelling with moulded dado rail; west room has moulded cornice with egg and dart enrichment and an angle fireplace with moulded surround and heavy keystone; main room has a large open fireplace with chamfered bressummer and continuous jambs; kitchen has chamfered stone fireplace with continuous jambs; the east room upstairs has a fireplace with a bolection-moulded surround and 2 other rooms have coved and segmental plastered ceilings.
