ST 71 NE STURMINSTER NEWTON BAGBER Bagber Bridge
2/62 II
On the common boundary of the parishes of Stalbridge and Sturminster Newton. Road Bridge, c 1850 by W Davis (Engineer) and Coalbrookdale Co (makers) Cast and wrought iron with coursed rubble abutments. Single span, Bridge is of 4 cast iron girders prestressed with wrought iron bars. Arched rib in profile of each girder. Tie rods beneath. Coursed rubble abutments with string course, small square piers and capstones. Cast iron railings with chamfered cast iron stanchions. An early example of the use of prestressing techniques.
