Description

WINTERBORNE ZELSTON CENTPvE SY 8997 VILLAGE CENTRE 16/198 The Old Rectory GV II Detached house - former rectory. Mainly C17 but may incorporate earlier work. Re-roofed and refaced in C19. Mainly plastered walls; slate roof, hipped at left end; brick stack left of centre. In 2 parts. Left section of 2 storeys, has panelled door in C20 trellised porch. Ground floor has pair of French doors, and 4 casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. 4 similar windows on first floor. Right section, of one storey and attic, has steeper pitched slate roof. Slated lean-to at right end. Glazed door. Ground floor has 3 casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. Attic has 2 gabled dormers with casements. Left gable wall buttressed. Rear wall part brick, part plastered cob, has angled squint on ground floor. Traces of blocked opening at intermediate level. Internally, left of ground floor room has deep chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, on stone corbels. Stone fireplace with flat lintel and moulded surround. Main stairs, C17, with closed string and heavy turned balusters, extends into loft. Timber-framed partition in former cross-passage. Centre room has deep chamfered ceiling beams and large open fireplace with timber lintel. C18 raised panel doors and dado. Stairs at right end have shaped splat balusters at upper landing - C17.
