GV II Museum)
Museum, 1880 by General Pitt-Rivers. Rendered with tiled roofs. Brick stacks
to ends and disposed symmetrically along the ridge. Symmetrical. One and a
half storeys, 4 window range with further outer pavilions presenting gables to
the front. 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. Outer pavilions
have 3-light mullioned and transomed windows. Upper floor windows in gablets.
Central tetrastyle Tuscan porch in stone. Central ribbed plank door. The
museum was built to house finds from Pitt-Rivers archaeological excavations
on Cranborne Chase. The collection has now been dispersed and the museum
