Description
1. 865 MARKET PLACE (West Side) No 1
ST 8806 1/43 27.lO.50. II* GV 2.
Post 1731. 3-storey 3 window front. The central panel is red brick, the sides of the usual burnt grey brick with red dressings. Stone quoins and moulded strings. Enriched modillion cornice with central pediment. Central windows to lst and 2nd floors have moulded architraves and differently shaped segmental heads. Other windows have triple keystones. Victorian shop-front with iron cresting. Internally, 1st floor room with fielded panelling. Fireplace; remains of C18 staircase [See RCHM].
All the listed buildings in Market Place, and Nos 59 to 73 (odd) East Street,
Conyers Filling Station, Nos 1 to 7 (odd), Nos 2 to 8 (even) and No 12 West
Street, and Church of St Peter and St Paul form a group; and Nos 1 to 7 (odd)
form a group with Nos 1 and 3 Salisbury Street.
