1. 865 SALISBURY STREET (East Side) Ryves Almshouses
ST 8806 1/103 27.10.50. II* 2.
Founded by George Ryves in 1682 for 10 poor persons. Long 1-storey red brick range with projecting wings at each end forming 3-sided court. Plain-tile roof with stone slates at eaves. 6 good brick chimneys with sunk panels and moulded caps. Gable-ends to road have moulded brick kneelers. Coved cornice, In centre is small gable with cove continued up verges. In the gable is a tablet commenorating the foundation and a cartouche with arms of founder above. Windows are 2-lights stone casements. Round-headed brick doorways.
