PLAN: L-plan with coped gables to S and E on bold kneelers, and a long rear range facing the W end of the Church of St Nicholas (qv). The left gable is brought forward and has a carved coat of arms on a diagonal ground above a 3-light casement with label; at the ground floor is an octagonal bay with stone mullions, and crenellated top. A small light has been inserted to the right of the first-floor window, and the return to the right has a single light above aa part-glazed door in a moulded 4-centred head. The wing to the right has a 3-light at each level, with label to the ground floor. The E gable, facing the church, has a small louvred vent above 3-light casements at each level. The rear range is in rubble, with 2- or 3-light casements, and a central glazed door. There are octagonal paired stacks to the left of the main front, and rear of the right wing. At the eaves are cast-iron ogee gutters, carried on stone modillions with carved lion heads. INTERIOR: ground floor only inspected. It has substantial late C19 or early C20 detailing, including a stick baluster staircase with tapered newels, and various doors with linenfold panelling. The room to the rear of the staircase, in the rear wing, is fully panelled. Some modifications have been made to accommodate institutional use, but much of good quality is retained.
