WEYMOUTH SY6685 CHURCH STREET, Upwey 873-1/5/578 (East side) 14/06/74 Walls, gates, and outbuilding to No.162 Brook House (Formerly Listed as: CHURCH STREET, Upwey (East side) Outbuilding of No.162 and garden wall to road) GV II Boundary walls with gates and railings, and stable, now outbuilding. Late C18 and early C19. Stone and brick, wrought- and cast-iron; the outbuilding without roof covering (formerly slate) at time of survey. Late C18 and early C19. The boundary walls are all in rubble or coursed stone, backed with brickwork; to Church Street the wall rises to a plain coping at approx 2m, with a square dressed stone pier with capping to the left. Opposite the house frontage it is reduced to a plinth level, and carries railings in 3 bays each side of a central gate, with a further wood gate to the far right. At each end of this section are rendered piers with ball finials. The wall returns to the right, at the left-hand end of the facade, and encloses the garden to NW and NE. Beyond the left-hand pier on Church Street is an opening approx 3m wide, then a small square rubble outbuilding, originally a stable or carriage house, with half-hipped roof, in 2 storeys, with a square plank loading bay to the street above a wide blocked opening. INTERIOR: simple purlin roof. Towards the house, facing a small enclosed courtyard, is a pair of wide plank doors. Listing NGR: SY6602283008
