PORTLAND
SY6873 HIGH STREET, Fortuneswell 969-1/3/107 (South side) Nos.107 AND 109
II
Pair of houses in short row. Early C19. Coursed and squared stone, double roman tile roof. Two storeys and attic, each house 1-windowed. Former 16-pane sashes, now without horizontal bars, to stooled stone cills; left and right C19 3-panel doors with rosettes under small horizontal overlight. Small plinth, dying to pavement, left; raised alternating quoins, and raised plain lintel bands at each floor. Right verge raised and cement rendered, to prominent moulded kneeler at front; at left end No 105 has been raised on the original party wall, and a kneeler of the same kind is built in to its gable wall. Right gable return rendered, with small 4-pane sash to attic and to first floor. Back has flush quoins, and two very large C20 dormer windows. Central ridge stack in brick. An unusual design with larger windows than usual, becoming isolated by demolitions and C20 changes to surrounding buildings. (Royal Commission on Historical Monuments: Dorset: London: 1970-: 255).
